“This position is for life. What kind of democracy is there?” Latvian compared Europe and Belarus

Solomon Bernstein. Video screenshot News topic April 12, Minsk . In the “Honest Story” project on the BELTA YouTube channel, Latvian Solomon Bernstein expressed his opinion about the events in Belarus in 2020, as well as about living conditions in Europe.
Discussing the events of 2020 in Belarus, Solomon Bernstein said: “Most of those who went out in 2020, they went at most to Vilnius, Warsaw, no further. And so, to go for a month and a half or two, to encounter this social system, when you come and they say to you: “Who are you? Show me your passport! No, you're not like that - get out!"

"You're used to the fact that Milk costs 2.5 rubles. And then you come and they ask you for 1.5 euros - 5.5 rubles for a carton of milk - wow! Moreover, IT is not a fact that this milk was given by a cow ; it could have been made from something else. Because food production standards are completely different. For a Belarusian, for example, it will be quite difficult to eat European food, precisely European food, because it’s plastic cheese, plastic butter , plastic bread. It will be quite difficult for him to eat," said Solomon Bernstein.

"And what these people fought for in 2020, I don’t understand. They themselves probably don’t understand. These are flower children who are hippies: for everything good, against everything bad,” he expressed bewilderment.

Solomon Bernstein gave an example from life: “I worked with one such “zmagar.” 20 years old man, BB tattoo on his neck. I ask what claims he has against the state of Belarus. “He has been in power for 35 years” (answers – BELTA’s note). I say, so what, look at the English royal family, they have been in power for several generations . “But they don’t decide anything there” (in response - BELTA’s note). How does this not solve anything? Did you understand the issue? The Queen of England (the correct title is “Queen of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Kingdoms of the Commonwealth”; the last “Queen of England” died in September 2022, the current monarch of Great Britain is the king. - BELTA) dismisses the Prime Minister of Australia with one signature. Oops, unexpected. But the British Union has not gone away; it was simply transferred from political to economic, leaving behind preferences. The Queen of England can veto any decision of parliament - any: both the House of Commons and the House of Representatives. The so-called House of Peers is not elected at all; it is a hereditary seat - the father passes it on to his son. What kind of democracy is this? And what the people decide in the House of Representatives can be vetoed, firstly, by the House of Lords, and secondly, by the Queen. Without explaning the reason. The Queen of England does not pay taxes at all, lives in palaces at the expense of taxpayers, and the position is for life. What kind of democracy is there?"

“And if you look at it, in that “civilized Europe” of 24 states at least 11 are hereditary aristocracies, these are monarchies. Moreover, the richest countries are monarchies. Great Britain , Liechtenstein, Monaco, Spain, Portugal are monarchies. As in general in my Head manage to fit two concepts: “democracy” and “monarchy” (democracy is a type of political regime, and monarchy is a type of form of government, these categories should not be confused. - BELTA’s note) Yes, of course, it is limited in some matters, but the people do not make decisions regarding the beginning and end of the war. It has always been so. The people may vote for something or not accept something, but the most important political and economic decisions are still made by the political leader,” - summarized Solomon Bernstein.
