South Korea opens market to Irish beef

“South Korea has been identified as a priority market for Irish access and my department has been actively working towards this goal for many years. The door is now open for beef and the industry has a real opportunity to grow,” said Minister McConalogue.

“With a Korean population of over 50 million, there is huge potential for Irish agri-food exporters to expand their presence in the challenging Korean market,” he added.

Irish beef exports totaled €2.7 billion last year , more than half of which went to the UK.

A total of 48% was sent to EU countries and only 5% or €128 million was exported to other third countries, including the usa , CANADA, CHINA , Japan and the Philippines.
