The Rosselkhoznadzor assessed the prospects for opening new enterprises for the supply of meat to the Russian Federation

The enterprises opened today for the supply of pork and beef to Russia within the limits of zero duties are enough to satisfy domestic demand. Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor , spoke about this in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel .

“Today, more than 100 enterprises from South America have been certified for deliveries to the Russian Federation. Brazilian enterprises can cover this quota on their own, not to mention Uruguay, Chile, Colombia,” said Sergey Dankvert.

According to him, the main issue at this stage is not so much the opening of new markets, but the interest in supplying pork and beef to the Russian Federation, taking into account the current market situation.

“Today, the most important question, even taking into account the reduced duties, will it be more profitable for these enterprises to send their products to China or to Russia? If the price is higher in China, then we can open as many enterprises as we like, but no one will be lucky,” the head of the department said.

Recall that Russiaintroduced a duty-free import quota for 200,000 tons of beef and 100,000 tons of pork in 2022. Duties were canceled due to the fall in domestic meat production to stabilize prices.

According to the results of this year, Russia imported about 570 thousand tons of meat from abroad. At the same time, the figure for the export of Russian meat at the end of the year will be about 650 thousand tons of meat, the Head of the Department said.
