Scientists have developed a test to lift the ban on bird flu vaccinations.

Vaccination is currently limited in Russia due to the difficulty in distinguishing between antibodies produced after vaccination and those produced as a result of disease. When infections are detected on poultry farms, flocks are culled, leading to the death of over 10 million birds in 2022.

The new method includes two diagnostic kits: one detects the total virus protein, the other a specific target protein. This will enable accurate differentiation between vaccinated birds and those that have become ill. Vaccination is especially important for factories located in risk zones and, without affecting meat safety, can significantly reduce the likelihood of disease spread.
