The version of the introduction of the ASF virus with food waste at the round table on the development of the agro-industrial complex was expressed by the regional Minister of Agriculture and Consumer Market Denis Sharonov.

The minister noted that the first outbreak was a complete surprise for local farmers, but the second one clearly indicates the carelessness of the owner of a private farmstead in Malaya Sluda.

Live pigs from other regions of RUSSIA are not delivered to Komi. Wild boars are rare here: they appear only at the southern border of the republic. The safety of all batches of pig feed officially purchased at the beginning of the year was confirmed by certificates. In addition, compound feeds undergo mandatory heat treatment, which inactivates the pathogen. Accordingly, all these ways of spreading the infection are excluded.

The only uncontrolled and illegal source of infection for pigs remains - feeding animals with food waste taken from public catering establishments, Sharonov summed up. For example, the ASF virus can be transmitted through undercooked potato peels contaminated with tiny soil particles. The Minister urged pig farmers to self-discipline and urged them not to use food waste instead of feed to prevent new outbreaks of ASF that threaten the welfare of farmers.
