Russia and Pakistan strengthen agricultural cooperation with increased trade and a foot-and-mouth disease vaccine

Expansion of supplies and veterinary cooperation

At the tenth meeting of the Russian-Pakistani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, Russia's readiness to increase mineral fertilizer exports to the Pakistani market was confirmed. Russian producers already hold a strong position among key suppliers. Particular attention was paid to veterinary cooperation: a Russian foot-and-mouth disease vaccine developed by the Shchyolkovsky Biocombine Federal State Enterprise has been officially registered in Pakistan, opening up prospects for joint efforts to control livestock diseases.

Development of trade in plant products

The parties discussed expanding the range of crop products: Russia confirmed its willingness to increase supplies of wheat, chickpeas, peas, and lentils, while Pakistan expressed interest in exporting citrus fruits to the Russian market. The importance of expanding the range, including advanced processing, was emphasized—this will enhance the competitiveness of goods and strengthen bilateral trade ties.

Educational exchange and recognition of standards

Active collaboration in the educational sector continues within the framework of agricultural cooperation: 29 Pakistani students are currently studying at Russian universities, generating strong interest from both sides. Russia has expressed its willingness to expand training programs for specialists, including veterinarians and plant breeding and protection experts. The positive impact of the mutual recognition of organic product certificates and the current halal agreement was also noted—these mechanisms facilitate trade and enhance trust between market participants.
