At the moment, RUSSIA continues to receive breeding animals, mainly from the European Union. However, since 2014, when special economic measures were introduced, the volume of MEAT and meat products imported from the EU has significantly decreased. This creates difficulties for livestock breeders who depend on high-quality genetics.
To solve the problems that have arisen, Russian farmers are turning to new suppliers such as Brazil , Argentina and New Zealand, which are known for the high quality of their breeds. Domestic breeding programs are also becoming a priority, allowing for improvements in meat quality and animal resistance to disease.
The recent outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Germany, which became known on January 9, 2025, prompted ROSSELKHOZNADZOR to introduce a ban on the import of livestock products from the entire EU from January 20, 2025. This decision is aimed at protecting the HEALTH of domestic livestock.
Reducing dependence on imports requires a comprehensive approach: searching for alternative supplies, actively developing domestic production and introducing new technologies. This will ensure the country's food security and create a competitive livestock industry.
