Rosagroleasing: The Russian feed market is able to provide nutrition and vitamins to animals in the country

Last month, the Rosselkhoznadzor suspended the import of animal feed from a number of countries due to the poor quality of the feed itself. Meanwhile, Russia is actively developing the domestic production of feed and vitamins in accordance with all quality standards. Analysts of Rosagroleasing conducted an analysis of the feed market and noted a positive trend in its development, the press service of Rosagroleasing reported.

This is not the first time that Rosselkhoznadzor publishes letters on the suspension of certification of feed and additives intended for sale in Russia, and this is a common practice for the agency: only this year two such documents were registered: on March 15 - addressed to the Spanish manufacturer, and on May 18 - for a German manufacturer.

At the same time, last year the import of products from certain manufacturers from the Netherlands, Lithuania, Canada, Great Britain and other countries was suspended.

The reason for the bans is the discrepancy between production standards using GMO components that are not declared or registered in Russia. The agency is fighting specific violators who do not want to comply with product quality standards - there is no talk of introducing an actual embargo.

According to Rosagroleasing analysts, today the feed market consists of several components: ready-made feed (in the structure of which about 80% is compound feed), feed additives (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, probiotics and prebiotics, organic acids and enzymes, etc.), premixes (mixtures for balancing feed rations).

Despite the difficulties of 2020 due to restrictions imposed due to Covid-2019, feed production not only remained at the level of 2019, but also increased by 1.6% and amounted to 30.9 million tons.

Feed additives are an important part of any balanced diet. They are used both by producers of compound feed, concentrates and premixes, and by farms for self-introduction into the feed base. Note that Russia is almost 90% dependent on imports of feed additives. About 160 domestic producers and more than 700 foreign ones are represented on the Russian market of feed additives.

At the same time, the market for probiotics (live microorganisms and their fermentation products) is actively developing in Russia, which occupy a small share of 2% in the overall structure of the Russian feed market. On average, the probiotics market for the period 2015-2019 grew by 7-8% and in 2019 amounted to $57.3 million (~4 billion rubles).

According to JSC Rosagroleasing, due to the provision of the Russian Federation with domestic animal feed, the restrictions introduced will not lead to negative consequences.

One of the flagships of the domestic feed market is the Primorsky Territory, where the scientific and production group of companies Arnika is implementing a project in the Nadezhdinskaya ASEZ that will reduce the industry’s import dependence on products by 70%.

The project to create high-tech production facilities "Kormbiosintez" and "Pharmasyntez", including the creation of production lines for the production of feed vitamins, protected amino acids, probiotics, biotechnological synthesis proteins and products based on them, is being implemented with the support of Rosagroleasing. Rosagroleasing's investments have already amounted to 3.8 billion rubles.

The agro-bioeconomic cluster is a large-scale investment program of the Arnika Group of Companies to create up to 10 high-tech feed production facilities for biologically valuable feed products in the Far Eastern Federal District based on the deep and biotechnological processing of Far Eastern corn, which meets the needs of the livestock industry of the Russian Federation and is in demand on world markets.

In December 2020, Arnika LLC commissioned Kormbiosintez, the first high-tech enterprise (HTP) in Russia, to produce a line of feed vitamins for farm animals and protected “smart” forms of products for cattle (essential amino acids, choline, urea). The products have been registered with the Rosselkhoznadzor, declared for compliance with the requirements of the EurAsEC countries and are already being shipped in batches to large agricultural holdings of the Russian Federation.

The declared capacity of the enterprise (more than 12,000 tons per year of production of biologically valuable feed components) is able to meet the needs of Russian feed production, significantly reducing import dependence in the assortment to 15 items.

Part of the production volumes (up to 30% of the volumes) is planned to be exported to the world markets of the Asia-Pacific countries. Currently, testing of samples by partners in Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam and registration procedures in these countries are being actively carried out.

In the 3rd quarter, the second high-tech biotechnological enterprise Pharmasyntez will be put into operation for the production of probiotic and synbiotic complexes for health promotion and veterinary drugs for the treatment of animals with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons. VPT "Kormbiosintez" LLC "Arnika" is actively increasing production volumes and plans to reach the design capacity within 6 months.
