In the Moscow region there is a poultry complex "Romashino". It received the status of a gene pool farm. This was announced by Georgy Filimonov, deputy chairman of the regional government, who oversees the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

The farm now has official status. The complex has turned into an enterprise that specializes in preserving the gene pool and breeding poultry for breeding purposes. Genetic selection work will be carried out on it, parent flocks and final hybrids of meat-egg poultry will be produced without third-party interference, and the poultry gene pool will be expanded in the Russian Federation.

The Romashino complex produces up to three hundred thousand heads of parent stock and half a million heads of final hybrids. Last year, management bought four breeds and 6 lines of chickens that belong to meat-egg breeds. The enterprise is already engaged in breeding, raising “dominant” laying hens, as well as crosses of chickens with high productivity.

In the near future, the company will have a first-order loudspeaker in Shakhovskaya. It will grow up to 1 million heads of poultry per year, producing 13.5 million eggs for incubators per year. To implement the project, they will spend 1.38 billion rubles. By the end of 2023, initial lines of egg-laying birds will be purchased, the number will be increased, and laying hens will begin to be raised. As a result, they will achieve an increase in parent heads to half a million, and final hybrids to more than a million heads.

If we talk about the structure of the number of agricultural animals, the most numerous are birds. Its share is 88.3%. This is a lot, taking into account the fact that the livestock of small cattle has a share of 3.7%, cattle - 2.6%, and pigs - 4.4%. From 2017 to the third quarter of 2022, the share of poultry in the Russian livestock of agricultural animals decreased by only 0.1 percentage points. At that time, there were over 555.8 million heads of broilers and laying hens in Russia.
