Global pig meat production is projected to reach 131.1 million tonnes in 2033, 7.6% higher than the 2021-23 average.
In terms of international trade, imports and exports are expected to weaken globally over the next 10 years, falling by 5.8% and 6.4% respectively.
Apparent consumption will be 131 million tonnes in 2033, 7.7% higher than the 2021-2023 average of 121.7 million tonnes.
Regional growth
In terms of pork production, the largest growth in 2033 will be seen in Asia (4.8%), Latin America (3.8%), Africa (3.1%) and North America (2.6%), while Europe is expected to decline by 3.1%.
Imports are expected to decline sharply in Asia (-18.7%) and Europe (-15%), while in Latin America, Africa and Oceania they are expected to grow by 9.3%, 93.8% and 28.6% respectively.
Exports from Europe and Latin America are expected to decline by 14.7% and 12.6% respectively over the period under review, while North America, with 4.83 million tonnes, is expected to grow by 1.6% in 2033.
Latin America (20.2%), Asia (8.5%) and North America (8.2%) will be the most notable regions in terms of visible consumption growth rates, while Europe is expected to see a 2.4% decline in consumption by 2033.
