Among the most sought-after specialties are veterinarians working with cattle. As noted by Evgeny Finageev, HEAD of the employment department at the St. Petersburg State Veterinary University, there is a growing interest in working with farm animals. Chief zootechnicians and veterinarians are in the greatest demand on the labor market.
Sergey Domolazov, associate professor at the Kazan Academy of Veterinary Medicine, emphasizes that agricultural enterprises offer higher salaries and "lifting" bonuses for new specialists, which makes work in this field especially attractive for graduates of veterinary universities. At the beginning of 2025, the average salary of veterinarians was 74.3 thousand rubles, but the figures vary significantly depending on the region and specialization. For example, in Karelia, the maximum salary reached 200 thousand rubles, while in the Zabaikalsky Krai they started at 35 thousand rubles.
Uneven supply may influence the choice of place of work. The most acute shortage of veterinarians is observed in remote and rural areas of RUSSIA, such as the Far East and Siberia, where the standard of living and infrastructure leave much to be desired. At the same time, interest in new areas of veterinary medicine, such as oncology, dermatology and physiotherapy, is growing, which opens up new opportunities for the development of specialists.
