The results of a comprehensive program for the development of sheep breeding in Transbaikalia, launched a year ago at the initiative of the governor of the region, will become tangible in 2022. This was announced on February 4 following the results of the report of the regional Ministry of Agriculture, the HEAD of the agrarian department Denis Bochkarev.
“Sheep breeding has been and remains one of the most difficult industries in Transbaikalia. Over the past year, the number of sheep has decreased by 14 thousand heads. In order to increase the number of small cattle in the region, the Ministry of Agriculture, together with the administration of the Aginsky Buryat District, launched a comprehensive program for the development of sheep breeding in the Trans-Baikal Territory until 2030 last year. Also, with the support of Governor Alexander Osipov, the pilot project “Family Farm. Transbaikalia (flock). We expect that these measures will bear fruit already this year, and over time will ensure an increase in the number of sheep,” the minister said.
He noted that in 2021, a lot of breeding work was carried out in Transbaikalia to improve the sheep gene pool. So, from outside the region, more than a hundred sheep-producers of three fine-fleeced breeds, as well as MEAT and meat-wool directions were brought to the region's farms.
“In addition, agricultural producers received support for the produced sheep meat, for the sold wool. A program has begun to provide livestock camps with wells,” the minister explained.
We add that, as an experiment in a comprehensive program for the development of sheep breeding, not only agricultural organizations and farms, but also personal subsidiary plots of citizens registered as self-employed can now take part in events.
