The Canadian Food Inspection Agency reportedly took these measures to protect Canada's poultry resources from outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The banned states are Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wisconsin. .

In addition, all poultry products and offal that have not been fully cooked, canned or sealed are prohibited.

If there is one lesson learned from the pandemic, it is that the global supply chain is vulnerable to disruption. The poultry supply chain is not invulnerable. Just as covid-19 has disrupted operations, avian flu could disrupt the supply chain as flocks of chickens that test positive for the disease are culled.

Eggs and raw pet food obtained, processed or packaged from restricted areas are also prohibited from entering CANADA. Live poultry can be brought into Canada with an official certificate from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

In July, the USDA Animal and Plant HEALTH Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a non-commercial flock in Carson City, Nevada. The affected object has been quarantined.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the public health risk associated with the detection of avian influenza in birds remains low.
