Brazil tightens rules to prevent bird flu

Within 90 days, all exhibitions, championships, fairs and other events related to the exposition of any poultry will be canceled in the country. Note that such rules are not included in the list of standard requirements for veterinarians and farmers during typical local outbreaks of the virus (even highly pathogenic strains).

Such strict rules are introduced due to the identification of several recent outbreaks in neighboring countries. We are talking about Argentina, Mexico, Chile and a number of other countries. In the first of these, the supply of poultry MEAT was only recently resumed after several cases of influenza in the province of Rio Negro and other regions. In the second, as we wrote earlier, quarantine was also recently lifted on three poultry farms. But in Chile not so long ago, on the contrary, the first case this year was detected. In addition, only at the end of last year there, as well as in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and a number of other states, according to official data from their bodies, more than 20 outbreaks were detected.

Apparently, the Brazilian authorities fear that due to the high virulence of the disease, even in a single country, taking into account infections in several countries, it will be enough to kill several hundred or even thousands of people. Brazil itself is still free of bird flu, but it has had to investigate suspicious cases. The fact that no outbreaks have been detected in this country so far may be due to the fact that the high mountain system of the Andes prevents the spread of the virus.
