Chile, traditionally Argentina's second-largest market, reopened in July 2024 and trade is expected to recover.

Poultry producers expect further expansion of exports if Argentina can resume shipments to China . China, which accounted for 22% of Argentina’s chicken exports before the HPAI outbreak, has historically been the main target for Argentine chicken exporters. Following a technical visit by the Chinese government to Argentina in May 2024, the industry hopes the market can be reopened by the end of the year.

The Philippines also sent a technical mission to Argentina in July 2024 that visited 55 poultry companies, but the results of the technical report are still awaited. The industry expects the Philippines to become an important market for Argentine exports.

Many exporters believe the government is likely to devalue the currency before the end of 2024, which could improve export prospects. In addition, industry contacts believe the government’s debt negotiations could narrow the gap between the official dollar exchange rate and various informal rates, helping the sector improve its competitiveness.
