Argentina will export pork to Uruguay.

In 2023 alone, Uruguay imported 49,000 tons of pork, 96% of which came from Brazil . Negotiations between Uruguay's Minister of Bioeconomy and the Minister of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries, as well as the Director of Pork Production, along with representatives of Uruguayan producers, opened up this new and nearby market and enabled Argentina to meet the high demand for pork from Uruguayan consumers.

Initially, three slaughterhouses authorized by Senasa Argentina will supply products for export , with an estimated value of $ 2,500 per ton. However, slaughterhouses deemed suitable for export may be added in accordance with Uruguayan requirements.

Argentine pork is highly prized in markets like Uruguay due to the genetic quality achieved by its producers. Unlike other countries, Argentina does not use ractopamine as an anabolic steroid. This significantly increases the competitiveness of its pork.

In parallel with these negotiations, the Argentine Pig Federation and the Uruguayan Pig Breeders Society will sign a cooperation agreement to work towards improving pork production in Argentina and Uruguay.
