In Brest, the driver who hit a child at a crossing was taken into custody

All accidents occurred on snowy roads or during icy conditions. In particular, on the morning of January 17, in the Lyakhovichi district, a 32-year-old Ford driver lost control, drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into a Volkswagen. As a result of the accident, the 44-year-old driver of this car died in hospital, and a 21-year-old passenger was injured. In the Pruzhany district on the morning of January 18, a 36-year-old driver of a Renault car lost control. Due to the skid, the car drove into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Geely car. The drivers of the vehicles did not receive serious injuries, but the passenger of the Renault suffered serious injuries.

Investigative teams worked at the scene of the accident. Criminal cases have been initiated under Article 317 (violation of traffic rules by the driver, resulting through negligence in the death of a person or the infliction of grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code.

“In addition to the influence of weather, one of the reasons for serious road accidents is personal indifference or even criminal behavior of road users,” noted Roman Zarmaev. “In Brest on the evening of January 20, a 38-year-old driver was unable towas driving a Renault car while intoxicated . Moving along Krasnogvardeyskaya Street towards Aviation Lane, he hit a nine-year-old girl who was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing. As a result of the accident, the child suffered serious injuries. The girl is currently in the hospital."

Investigators opened a criminal case against the driver, Part 4 of Article 317 (violation of traffic rules by a drunk driver, resulting in negligence inflicting grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code. With the sanction of the prosecutor, the man was taken into custody.
