Member of the Board (Minister) for Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Valentin Tataritsky, during a video conference with the capitals of the EAEU states , answered the question whether raspberry and pomegranate wine will be considered wine in the EAEU , BELTA correspondent reports.

Valentin Tataritsky said that the Russian side put forward an initiative to consider as wine not only a product obtained by fermenting grape raw materials, but also fruit wines. However, it did not find support from other EAEU countries, although pomegranate wine is very popular in Armenia. Nevertheless, the general position that only products made from grapes can be considered wine has been sent to the EAEU countries for internal approval. “We expect that it will be completed in April,” the EEC Minister said.

“In Soviet times, fruit and berry wines were perceived as normal, but still, in everyone’s perception, wine is wine made from grapes by fermentation,” he noted.

Valentin Tataritsky added that the discussion on this matter has not yet been completed and will continue, including with the participation of business.

He also recalled that from July 1 of this year, technical regulations for alcoholic products will come into force in the EAEU. It provides for a transition period until January 1, 2027.
