Spring sowing on the Don reaches the finish line

The sowing of spring crops and other seasonal field work is being completed in the Rostov Region.
“On the Don, spring sowing is entering the finish line, the region's farmers have sown more than 90% of the planned areas,” said Viktor Goncharov, First Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region, during a visit to the farmlands of the Ust-Donetsk region. – In recent days, the weather has held back field work, as rainfall has been frequent and heavy, but it has played an important role both for spring crops and for winter crops. Now the weather is stabilizing, which favorably affects the pace of spring field work.”
According to the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food, grain and leguminous crops have been sown on more than 590 thousand hectares, which exceeds 90% of the plan. Sowings of industrial crops today amount to almost 950 thousand hectares, or about 90% of the planned areas. Potatoes and vegetables are sown on 73% of the area, fodder crops - on more than 97.5% of the area.
Recall that it is planned to sow about 1.8 million hectares of spring crops in the region, including about 640 thousand hectares of cereals and legumes, about 1.1 million hectares of industrial crops. In general, in 2023, the sown area of ​​all agricultural crops should be about 4.9 million hectares. The grain group will be placed on 3.5 million hectares or 70% of the total sown area, taking into account winter crops sown last fall on an area of ​​2.9 million hectares.
In addition, Don agrarians carry out systematic chemical treatment of crops against weeds, diseases and pests.
Viktor Goncharov also noted that he contributed to the operational pace of the sowing campaign and state financing of farmers. So, up to 3.6 billion rubles, or almost 42% of the annual limit, was brought to farmers, and more than one and a half times the amount of state support brought to the same date in 2022. In addition, the mechanism of preferential short-term lending to farmers also contributes to field work. To date, Don agrarians have been issued more preferential short-term loans in the amount of 10.7 billion rubles, which is 2.6 billion more than on the same date last year.
"State support and concessional lending- these are important tools for the development of the industry, and the results of recent years in the Don agro-industrial complex clearly demonstrate that assistance to farmers contributes to ensuring the food security of the Don region and the whole country," the First Deputy Head of the Rostov Region emphasized.
