In RUSSIA, a tax on MEAT may appear due to the carbon footprint accounting policy, which in the future may extend to livestock. This assumption was made by Dmitry Peskov, Special Representative of the President of Russia for Digital and Technological Development, during the Archipelago 2121 project and educational intensive. The event was broadcast on the 2035 university YouTube channel.
According to him, a person will inevitably face climate change and an increase in the average annual temperature in the next 100 years.
“We thought a carbon tax was a long way off. We introduced a tax, and we thought. <…> As the temperature [on the planet] rises, models will be revised towards other sources of CO2. For example, agriculture. This means that in a few years we will first be loudly indignant, and then we will be forced, for example, to accept a tax on meat,” he said.
Peskov also noted that the climate agenda could change the livestock sector and become an incentive for the development of new technologies in this area.
