Seoul recalled sanctions after Putin donated a car to Kim Jong-un

South Korea will continue to monitor compliance with sanctions against North Korea after Russian President Vladimir Putin gave Kim Jong-un an Aurus car, South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Lim Soo-sook said at a briefing, Yonhap reports.

“All UN member states are obliged to fully comply with UN Security Council resolutions on sanctions against North Korea,” Lim Soo-sook said. He recalled that the sanctions prohibit the supply, sale or transfer to North Korea of ​​all vehicles, regardless of their origin, including luxury cars.

The South Korean government will continue to work with the international community to implement UN Security Council sanctions, the diplomat added.

Earlier, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Putin gave the North Korean leader a gift in the form of a car. Later, the press secretary of the HEAD of state, Dmitry Peskov , clarified that a premium class Aurus car was donated.

On February 18, the sister of the DPRK leader, deputy head of the department of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Kim Yo Jong, received a gift for Kim Jong-un. Kim Yo Jong called the gift "a clear indication of the special friendly relations established between the leaders of the two countries."

Kim Jong-un saw the Aurus when he visited RUSSIA in September 2023 and when Putin showed him the cars of this brand from his motorcade.
