Putin's representative explained the irrelevance of the tax on meat for Russia

Russians are not threatened by the imposition of a tax on meat in the future, said Dmitry Peskov, special presidential envoy for digital and technological development. His words were conveyed to RBC by the NTI platform, one of the organizers of the Archipelago 2121 intensive.

He explained that the tax scheme is possible primarily for countries that are exporters of meat: China is the world's largest meat producer , followed by Brazil. According to Peskov, this is one of the reasons why this topic is not relevant for Russia now. The issue can be discussed by the world community, but after 2025, he believes, and with a rapid increase in temperature in the world.

“Two things are extremely important for Russia: a model of a regenerative economy for agriculture, with a minimal carbon footprint (there is no such thing in Russia so far), and building a compensatory sector of the economy associated with the use of proteins,” Peskov added. In order to avoid such a rise in costs, it is necessary to engage in a model of agriculture with a minimum carbon footprint now, according to the expert.
