The embassy called sanctions against the NBC protection system a price for the truth about the West's machinations

The UK sanctions against the Russian Armed Forces' radiation, chemical and biological defence (RCBZ) command are an attempt to divert attention from "repeatedly documented cases" of the Ukrainian Armed Forces using toxic substances with Western support, the Russian Embassy in the UK said.

“With this illegitimate action, the British authorities are once again trying to distract attention from the repeatedly documented cases of the use of toxic substances by their terrorist clientele in the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the embassy noted.

According to diplomats, British sanctions against the NBC protection agency are meaningless and were introduced because the Russian military is “revealing to the world the truth about the ‘chemical’ machinations of Western countries.”

The day before, on July 7, London added the HEAD of the NBC Protection Department, Major General Alexei Rtishchev, and his deputy, Major General Andrei Marchenko, to the sanctions list against RUSSIA. The British authorities explained this by the ongoing military actions in Ukraine .

The measures also affected the Research Institute of Applied Chemistry, located in Sergiev Posad, Moscow Region. The basis for the sanctions is "prohibited activity related to chemical weapons."

Russian authorities have previously stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces may use toxic substances to conduct combat. Thus, in August 2024 , Russian military personnel found toxic substances prepared for use in one of their caches. In October, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that the Ukrainian military continues to use toxic chemicals in the combat zone against the Russian army and civilians. According to her, the reason for this is support from the United States , Great Britain, Germany and France.

Moscow considers Western sanctions illegitimate and ineffective and demands that they be lifted.
