Russia retaliates against Australian sanctions by banning members of Victorian and South Australian state legislatures from entering its territory

Russia is permanently blocking the entry of 235 deputies of municipal assemblies in Australia, the Foreign Ministry said.

The department said that an anti-Russian agenda is being formed in this country; the restrictions were a response to sanctions.

The list included members of the state legislatures of Victoria and South Australia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they will continue to work on “updating the Russian stop list.”

Australia announced new sanctions against Russia at the end of February. They affected the Russian defense, energy, mining sectors, media companies, as well as organizations associated with “Russian procurement networks” in Belarus, Iran and North Korea.” Personal sanctions were imposed against the governors of Russian regions and artists, including Philip Kirkorov, Oleg Gazmanov, Nikolai Rastorguev, Nikolai Baskov.

In addition, Canberra twice announced sanctions in connection with the death of Alexei Navalny in a colony on Yamal. They included employees of the colony IK-3 and the Federal Penitentiary Service.
