Ukraine proposes to stop direct gas supplies from RUSSIA to the European Union if the flows bypass the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The proposal was developed by a commission headed by Andrey Yermak, HEAD of the presidential office, and former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul (the Yermak-McFaul commission).
“We propose sanctions that will lead to the suspension of all Russian-controlled pipeline routes that are now capable of transporting Russian natural gas to the European market, with the exception of any flows that are sent through the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” the document says.
The commission noted that this "will put an end to the use of the Turkish Stream." Kiev also proposed to ban the import of Russian liquefied natural gas.
In Ukraine, they also called on Japan and SOUTH KOREA, which had previously reduced imports of Russian energy resources, to follow the example of the EU and completely abandon their purchase.
Also, the Yermak-McFaul Commission proposed that Europe create gas reserves in western Ukraine in order to enhance the security of European gas supply in the winter of 2023-2024.
The transit line through Ukraine is the only route for Russian gas supplies to the countries of Western and Central Europe. In the spring of 2022, the "GTS Operator of Ukraine" announced the impossibility of pumping through the GIS "Sohranivka", since the station is located in the LPR.

The G7 and the EU countries, after the start of the special operation, announced their goals to limit the income of the Russian budget from energy exports: this is implemented as in setting a price ceiling foroil and oil products, as well as the refusal of supplies from Russia (in particular, gas). Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to cut off the supply of resources to countries that impose a ceiling on energy prices.
“We will only have one thing left: as in a famous Russian fairy tale, to say: “Freeze, freeze, wolf tail,” he concluded.
