France increased fees and terms for issuing visas to Russians

France will continue to issue short-term visas to Russians, but at the same time it will increase fees and terms for processing requests, according to a statement on the website of the republic's embassy in Russia.
The diplomatic mission stressed that Paris is acting in accordance with the decision of the Council of the European Union, which had previously suspended the simplified visa regime with Russia. Under the new rules, the visa fee will more than double, from €35 to €80. In addition, processing a Schengen visa request can now take up to 45 days.
“Those who wish to obtain a visa are advised to take this period into account when planning a trip,” the message says.
The changes will not affect long-term visas, the embassy stressed.

Before the pandemic, Russians were in the lead among the citizens of the states to which the EU countries provided the most Schengen visas. In 2019, about 4 million of them were issued to Russian citizens. Most of all visas were issued to Russians by Finland (782.2 thousand in 2019), Spain (more than 568 thousand), Italy (about 548 thousand), France (480.9 thousand), as well as Greece (about 407 thousand).
The European Union, imposing restrictions on the entry of Russians, “continues to simply lock its cage from the inside and isolate itself both from Russia and from the rest of the world, complicating business and personal ties between peoples on the European continent, in the Eurasian space, violating the principles of freedom of movement that were documented in OSCE documents,” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. The Kremlin promised a “serious response” to Russia to the actions of the EU.
