The EU Council approved the sixth package of sanctions against RUSSIA, follows from the statement of the organization.
“The Council today decided to impose the sixth package of economic and individual sanctions against Russia and Belarus,” the publication says.
“We are banning the import of Russian oil into the EU and thereby reducing a huge source of income for Russia. We are disconnecting more key Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell. Also, according to him, restrictive measures apply to those who are "guilty of the atrocities taking place in Bucha and Mariupol" and "disinformers actively contributing to the propaganda of President Putin." Russia denies the involvement of the Russian military in the civilian casualties in Bucha and Mariupol, calling these accusations provocations.
According to the report, the EU has adopted the following decisions:
prohibit the purchase, import or transfer of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the countries of the association. The phasing out of Russian oil imports will be phased in and will take anywhere from six months for crude oil to eight months for other refined products, the Council notes. For countries that “because of their geographical position suffer from a special dependence on supplies from Russia”, temporary exemptions are provided. For Bulgaria and Croatia, there are also exemptions for seaborne imports of Russian oil and vacuum gas oil, respectively (a mixture of hydrocarbons resulting from the extraction of crude oil. -); prohibit the provision of specialized services for the exchange of financial messages (SWIFT) to three more Russian banks: Sberbank, Moscow Credit Bank and Russian Agricultural Bank, as well as the Belarusian Bank for Development and Reconstruction (Belinvestbank); to suspend broadcasting in the EU of three Russian state TV channels: Rossiya RTR/RTR Planeta, Rossiya 24/Rossiya 24 and International TV Center. Brussels believes that they were used by the Russian government "as tools for manipulating information and spreading disinformation" about the situation in Ukraine in order to destabilize Russia's neighbors and EU countries. TV staff will be able to continue their work in the EU, if it is not related to broadcasting, for example, to conduct research and interviews; expand the list of Russian and Belarusian individuals and organizations affected by EXPORT restrictions on dual-use goods and technologies. Also, the EU will expand the list of goods and technologies that can contribute to the technological improvement of the Russian defense and security sector, including 80 chemicals that can be used to produce chemical weapons; prohibit the provision of accounting, consulting and PR services to Russia, as well as the provision of cloud services ; expand sanctions against individuals and entities deemed responsible by the EU for the events in Bucha and Mariupol, those supporting the military operation, Russian businessmen and their families, and against defense enterprises. The EU Council does not indicate the list of persons or their number.Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that its goal is to protect the population of Donbass from "genocide" by the Kiev authorities, as well as the "denazification" and "demilitarization" of Ukraine. After the start of the operation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky severed diplomatic relations with Russia, introduced martial law in the country and announced a general mobilization.
At the request of Roskomnadzor, RBC provides data on the details of the military operation in Ukraine based on information from Russian official sources.
In early April, the Ukrainian authorities and a number of Western media, including REUTERS and AFP, published footage from Bucha, which the Russian military had left shortly before, in which corpses were visible. According to Reuters, the photographs were of dead civilians. The city's mayor, Anatoliy Fedoruk, told AFP that the people pictured had been shot dead, and also spoke of hundreds of people found in mass graves.
The Russian Ministry of Defense called the photo and video from Bucha a staging and a provocation. The agency stated that the Russian military was not involved in the killings of civilians. The Kremlin called the events in the Ukrainian Bucha a forgery, the purpose of which is to denigrate the Russian army.
