US President Joe Biden signed a decree imposing sanctions on the DPR and LPR, the recognition of which President Vladimir Putin announced on Monday evening.

The document prohibits US citizens from any investment in the economy of the DNR and LNR, import into the United States, directly or indirectly, of any goods and technologies from the republics, export of any goods from the United States to the DNR and LNR.

The decree says that Moscow's recognition of the republics contradicts "Russian obligations in accordance with the Minsk agreements", and also threatens peace, stability, and the sovereignty of Ukraine. Thus, it "represents an unusual and extraordinary threat to US national security and foreign policy," the document says.

The White House announced the impending decree earlier. The statement also said that Washington intends to announce "additional measures due to Russia's violation of its international obligations." “To be clear, these measures are separate and will complement the swift and harsh economic measures that we are preparing in cooperation with our allies and partners in the event that Russia invades Ukraine,” they said.
