
The Australian authorities impose sanctions against 76 deputies of the State Duma and 34 members of the governments of the DNR and LNR. This was stated by Australian Foreign Minister Maris Payne, her words are quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald.
“These individuals violated the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine by asserting state power over the territory of Ukraine without the sanction of the government of Ukraine,” she said.
She added that the Australian Foreign Office would soon provide a list of those affected by the new sanctions. Sanctions against Russian deputies will be introduced for voting in support of the recognition of the DNR and LNR, as well as for the ratification of the treaty on military assistance to these republics.

Separately, the sanctions will affect State Duma deputy Oleg Matveychev, who was included in the list of disinformers and propagandists. “As a mouthpiece for President Putin, he even hypocritically advocated paying reparations for the damage caused by Western sanctions and the war itself,” Payne said.
Matveychev was a member of Vladimir Putin's campaign headquarters for the 2018 presidential election. In 2020, he became a finalist in the Leaders of Russia competition. In 2021, he took part in the elections to the State Duma from the United Russia party. In parallel with the work of the deputy, Matveychev is the author of the YouTube channel “Ears waving a donkey”.
