
Since the beginning of 2022, the labor market in RUSSIA has seen a demand for specialists who speak Chinese. This follows from a study of the Headhunter job search platform and the multiservice logistics operator PEK. Experts predict further growth due to the reorientation of business towards Asia.
According to the study, in April alone, the number of vacancies for such specialists almost doubled compared to the same period last year. The largest number of specialists with knowledge of the Chinese language is required in the field of logistics, retail retail, it companies, the production and sale of household appliances and electronics, the production and sale of non-food consumer goods and the supply of business services. The most in-demand jobs are translators, sales/account managers, purchasing managers, and project managers.

The number of vacancies showed an increase of 58% year on year. The indicator grew at double-digit rates every month, and in April - most dynamically (in January - by 42% yoy, in February - by 54%, in March - by 54% and in April - by 80%).
Companies in the energy industry were the most active in placing requests to search for candidates (in January-April - plus 300% yoy); asset management companies (plus 212%); Media, advertising, marketing and PR agencies (plus 183%); government organizations (plus 167%); enterprises from the heavy engineering industry (plus 118%); food producers (plus 112%); manufacturers and sellers of household appliances and electronics, computers and office equipment (plus 97%); agricultural enterprises (plus 95%); manufacturers of industrial equipment, machine tools and components (plus 97%); educational institutions (plus 67%); logistics companies (plus 56%) and car companies (plus 54%).
The fastest growing demand in January-April was for specialists in agriculture (up 217% yoy), logistics (up 193%), sales (up 156%) and administration (up 93%), interns and career start-ups young professionals (plus 76%), procurement professionals (plus 73%), personnel management (plus 59%), journalists and specialists in advertising and public relations (plus 58%), as well as lawyers (plus 53% %) and accountants (plus 37%), top managers (plus 19%), construction and real estate specialists (17%) and IT specialists (plus 15%).
The largest number of vacancies for specialists with knowledge of Chinese in January-April were offered by logistics enterprises, retailers, IT companies, manufacturers and sellers of home appliances and electronics, manufacturers and sellers of non-food consumer goods and business service providers.

“This is due to the growing demand for integrated logistics from China . Importers need to completely reorganize in a few months: select a supplier, check the quality of the product and issue accompanying documents, develop a shipment schedule, and so on,” Muzeev said.

According to the survey, 54% of Russians still believe that knowledge of English would be the most useful for their career. However, their number decreased by 6 percentage points over the year, while the number of people who consider Chinese the most useful increased from 5 to 11% over the year. Another 2% consider learning German the most useful, 1% each French, Japanese and Arabic.
