Teachers assessed the impact of the pandemic on the career expectations of schoolchildren

According to teachers, after the quarantine restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, schoolchildren began to appreciate live communication more. However, for some, this situation has given rise to fears related to the development of future careers.

The coronavirus pandemic and related quarantine restrictions, such as the transition to remote learning, have affected the mood of schoolchildren in different ways: for some they have allowed them to more accurately determine their choice of profession, while for others they have instilled fears about the possibility of building a career in the future. This is evidenced by the data of a survey of teachers conducted by the Humanitarian Projects Foundation and regional operators of the Ticket to the Future project (available from RBC).

Most schoolchildren began to appreciate live communication more - this was stated by 66% of the teachers surveyed. However, 11% of teachers noted that the experience of remote learning led to the separation of children in the team. 23% of teachers did not see a significant impact of the pandemic on their students.

A higher level of pessimism about career advancement opportunities among their students was noticed by 23% of teachers. At the same time, 21% of respondents are sure that their current students have become more responsible and conscious in choosing their future profession than those who studied earlier.

Nearly half of the teachers (45%) reported that students have become more interested in IT careers. More than 7% of teachers noted that against the backdrop of the development of the situation with coronavirus, children began to think more often about a career in medicine and pharmacology. Another 5% reported an increase in the interest of children in the profession of a scientist in the field of chemistry or biology.
