Daily mortality from COVID in Russia was a record

According to the federal headquarters, per day in Russia from COVID-19more than 650 people died for the first time. At the same time, the death record was updated by St. Petersburg, where 119 patients died per day

Over the past day in Russia, 652 people have died from the coronavirus infection COVID-19, which has become a new maximum since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data from the federal operational headquarters. The previous record was set on December 24 last year, when 635 people were reported dead from the coronavirus.

A new record for the number of deaths from COVID-19 in one day was recorded in St. Petersburg, where 119 people became victims of the disease. In Moscow, over the past day, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 121 people, which is three people less than the day before.

The following regions were also among the leaders in mortality from COVID-19 over the past day:

Nizhny Novgorod region - 27; Irkutsk region - 21; Buryatia - 21; Krasnodar Territory - 18.

In total, since the beginning of the pandemic in Russia, 134,545 people have died from COVID-19, according to the federal operational headquarters. However, according to Rosstat, by the end of April 2021, more than 270 thousand people with COVID-19 had died.

The authorities revised the data on mortality from COVID-19 Economics

The methodology for calculating mortality, which is used by the operational headquarters, differs from the methodology of the statistical office. Rosstat takes into account all deaths after COVID-19, even those cases where the virus did not become the main cause of death, but had a significant impact on the development of complications of another disease.
