Russia and North Korea will develop new programs for tourists.

Russia and North Korea are developing new tourism programs and are not ruling out joint tourism infrastructure projects, said Alexander Kozlov, head of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and co-chair of the intergovernmental commission between the two countries, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The minister noted that special attention is being paid to developing transport links. He stated that the flow of tourists from Russia to the DPRK in 2024–2025 has more than doubled compared to the pre-COVID period. Last year, approximately 4,000 Russians visited North Korea, and 7,000 tourists are expected in 2025.

"Considering the region's unique cultural and natural characteristics, we believe we will see a further increase in this indicator in 2026," Kozlov said.

The minister linked the increase in interest to the reopening of the Masikryong ski resort and the opening of the coastal resort in Wonsan.

In June, for the first time in five years, a North Korean passenger train traveling between Pyongyang and Moscow arrived at Yaroslavsky Station. Service on this route had been suspended due to the pandemic.

In July, the first direct flight from Moscow landed in Pyongyang, carrying a Russian delegation led by Kozlov. Direct air travel between Russia and North Korea was also suspended during the pandemic. In August 2023, North Korean airline Air Koryo resumed flights to Vladivostok.
