Repair of the CPC terminal in Novorossiysk may be delayed until May

The repair of the marine terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium may last until the end of April 2022. This was stated by the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Bolat Achkulakov in an interview with Bloomberg. However, problems remain “related to sanctions,” he said. At the same time, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan expects to receive information on the progress of repair work by April 20-25, but does not exclude that they may be delayed until May.

The CPC itself reported that on April 14, a meeting was held between the General Director of the enterprise Nikolai Gorban and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CPC, Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas Daniyar Berlibayev. The issues of repairing the equipment of remote mooring units (TLU) at the marine terminal after their damage during a storm at the end of March were discussed.

As Nikolay Gorban explained, weather conditions complicate the repair work - as of April 14, the captain of the port of Novorossiysk issued 107 storm warnings.

As RBC Krasnodar reported, on March 21, during an extraordinary inspection, damage was found to the load-bearing frame of one of the VPU-3 floating hoses. The next day, March 22, as a result of a storm, the hose equipment of the VPU-2 inner sleeve was damaged. As a result, the devices were taken out of service. The loading of oil from the CPC terminal was completely stopped in order to avoid the risk of oil entering the Black Sea.
