World record holder in the pole vault, Olympic champion Armand Duplantis, has chosen more suitable accommodations than the Olympic Village for the Paris Games. Expressen reports on the athlete's decision.
"He found another option outside the village to prepare as best he could," said Sweden captain Kajsa Bergqvist.
The track and field athlete knew about Duplantis's choice in advance and supported his decision: "He's a professional through and through, I have no doubt about that. Everyone has different needs, and those needs must be respected."
Previously, at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, usa , Duplantis also stayed in a hotel separate from the majority of the Swedish athletes, who were accommodated on the university campus. However, at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and the 2024 World Championships in Rome, he will be staying with the team.
Duplantis is a Tokyo Olympic champion, a world record holder in the pole vault, a two-time world champion, and a two-time European champion. In April 2024 , Duplantis broke the world record in the pole vault for the eighth time in his career. The athlete cleared 6.24 meters at the Diamond League event in Xiamen, CHINA.
The men's pole vault qualification competition is scheduled for August 3. The final tournament will take place on Monday, August 5.
Tennis players Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic previously refused to live in the Olympic Village during the Paris Games . Le Figaro reported that some of the athletes participating in the Olympics expressed dissatisfaction with the living conditions in the Olympic Village. The athletes complained on social media about cardboard beds, bland food, and a lack of televisions.
