Protsenko called the main danger of post-Covid

The HEAD physician of Kommunarka said that as a result of the post-COVID the number of people with diabetes mellitus increased, the numbers of arterial hypertension “rejuvenated” Denis Protsenko

Patients who have recovered from covid-19 often experience what is known as post-COVID-19, a range of diseases that can be both relatively harmless and dangerous to the cardiovascular system and memory. Denis Protsenko, head physician of the Kommunarka Moscow hospital, spoke about this in an interview with RBC.

“Now the post-COVID is of great interest to the medical community. Its manifestations are really very, very diverse, from skin rashes to rare cases when people’s sense of smell has not been restored or the symptoms of the covid debut have persisted - fatigue, memory loss. Covid dealt a very big blow to the cardiovascular system of those who had been ill,” he said.

According to him, the data on post-COVID-19 that Russian doctors have collected absolutely correlate with foreign ones - the number of people with diabetes has increased, and the numbers of arterial hypertension have become younger. “Therefore, to say that we survived the covid and forgot about it would be unfair,” Protsenko stressed.

Answering the question of how often in Kommunarka they meet with post-covid, the head physician noted that the question “have you endured covid” has already been included in the preoperative checklist of the anesthesiologist-resuscitator. “Because we understand that if so, then you need to be more careful about pressure and biochemical tests for blood SUGAR or glycated hemoglobin,” he added.

In early June, a team of leading doctors led by Protsenko launched an online course for those who had recovered from COVID-19 and other viral infections. For each user of the site and application, after passing a short questionnaire, an individual modular video course is formed, taking into account the symptoms that disturb this particular user.

Doctors interviewed by RBC previously listed six main symptoms of post-COVID, among them: shortness of breath, chronic fatigue, impaired sense of smell, problems with the gastrointestinal tract, cognitive impairment and hair loss.
