There is currently no evidence to support the laboratory origin of CORONAVIRUS infection (covid-19 ), said the HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova on air at Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.

"There is no evidence yet that this virus was lab-made and released, and certainly no evidence that it all started out of nowhere," she said.

As Popova noted, a World HEALTH Organization (WHO) working group was working on this issue in St. Petersburg . This is not yet the case, the head of the agency emphasized.

In early December, US congressmen presented the results of a two-year investigation, which stated that COVID-19 most likely originated in a laboratory and was spread as a result of a leak.

They presented several arguments to support their position:

  • biological characteristics that were not found in nature;
  • cases of the disease are caused by a single entry of the virus into the human body ;
  • the presence of a SARS virus research laboratory in Wuhan, CHINA, where there have previously been cases of research conducted at "inadequate biosafety levels."

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that the most likely origin of the coronavirus is natural.
