Costa Rica is the first country in the world to introduce compulsory vaccination for children aged five to 11, according to a statement from the local Ministry of HEALTH.

“In accordance with the principle of the best interests of children and adolescents <...> the National Commission on Vaccination and Epidemiology has decided that vaccination against CORONAVIRUS will be mandatory for all minors,” the department said.

The Costa Rica authorities included vaccination against covid-19 in the list of mandatory for the population back in March. However, until that time, the requirement concerned adults and adolescents from 12 years of age.
