“New strains”: Rospotrebnadzor named the reasons for the increase in cases of COVID-19

A significant increase in the incidence of covid is predicted in the Perm Territory. Evgeny Smirnov, HEAD of the epidemiological surveillance department of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Perm Territory, said this in an interview with RBC Perm.

The representative of the department said that an increase in the incidence was noted throughout RUSSIA. The Perm Territory is no exception. Since the end of July, the incidence has tripled. However, Rospotrebnadzor does not yet call this the sixth wave.

“It’s quite difficult for me to speak in terms of the number of waves in the sense that most often this is a subjective point of view. Here we must understand that we are growing. We do not see now the prerequisites that tomorrow it will stop. There is an upward trend, we cannot avoid it, there will still be an increase in the incidence. Especially considering that since the end of August, in September and October, we are expected to have an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory infectious diseases, which include CORONAVIRUS infection,” said Yevgeny Smirnov.

At the same time, the representative of Rospotrebnadzor refused to give accurate forecasts. He repeated that there will be an increase in the incidence, but it is rather difficult to say how intensively it will proceed.

“Given that new strains have been identified throughout the world that tend to spread rapidly, we can talk about fairly high rates that we can have,” added the head of the epidemiological surveillance department of the Rospotrebnadzor Administration for the Perm Territory.

Earlier, the federal Rospotrebnadzor said that the resumption of restrictions due to the increase in the incidence of covid-19 in the Russian Federation is not planned. The regional Rospotrebnadzor reported that at the moment it is only recommended that residents be revaccinated every six months, as well as wear masks in public places. This is especially true for visits to clinics.

The press service of the regional Ministry of HEALTH of RBC Perm reported that testing of citizens for COVID-19 is carried out as before: in the presence of symptoms of SARS. Such a patient first undergoes a rapid test. Upon receipt of a positive result, the patient undergoes a PCR test.

There are no more separate mobile ambulance teams in the region. Patients with COVID are examined in the offices of infectious diseases. Patients undergoing outpatient treatment are monitored by district doctors of polyclinics, and severe patients are treated in infectious diseases departments.

“At the moment, the treatment of patients with COVID-19 is carried out in the infectious diseases departments of medical institutions in the region. The Ministry will monitor the situation and, if necessary, make appropriate decisions,” the press service of the regional Ministry of Health reported.
