Medsintez will produce fertility drugs instead of Covid vaccine

At the Novouralsk enterprise Medsintez, a workshop will be opened for the production of the first Russian drug for the treatment of infertility Primapur. It is used during the IVF procedure to induce the growth of follicles in the ovaries.

As 66.RU writes with reference to the press service of the plant, Medsintez is ready to meet the country's annual need for follicle-stimulating hormone preparations by 200%. The plant will also launch the production of other hormonal preparations necessary for IVF.

As RBC Yekaterinburg previously wrote, in October 2020, the chairman of the board of directors of Medsintez, Alexander Petrov, said that the Novouralsk plant was developing a new coronavirus vaccine called Ural. However, already in the spring of 2021, Medsintez stopped working on a vaccine.

“The vaccine is working, but it can only be produced at the laboratory level. It is very difficult to scale, so we have suspended this work for now. Because we don’t understand how to move forward, ”Petrov said then.

According to 66.RU, the Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology did not give the plant permission to produce a vaccine against the Sputnik V coronavirus. The Gamaleya Center explained that “the site did not provide the packages of documents regulated by the requirements of the legislation of the Russian Federation for making changes to the registration dossier for the Sputnik V and Sputnik Light medicines.
