Belarus controls 6% of GLOBAL DAIRY TRADE

According to the MILK Market Observatory report for June 2021, Belarus ranks 2nd in the world in the EXPORT of condensed milk, 3rd in the export of butter and whey powder, 4th in the export of cheese, 5th in the export of dry skimmed milk.

In Belarus, the volume of milk production in 2020 increased by 5%, to 7.7 million tons. Of this amount, more than 6 million tons went to the production of butter, cheese, skimmed milk powder, canned milk, whey powder and other products. The volume of production of whole-milk products as a result amounted to 2,102 thousand tons (+5.4% compared to 2019). Such data are provided by analysts of the rating agency BIK Ratings and the investment and consulting company ASER in their review of the Belarusian market of milk and dairy products.

Belarusian dairy enterprises managed to increase cheese production by 11%, up to 270.7 thousand tons. Butter production was increased by 3% to 119.5 thousand tons.

At the same time, 54 thousand tons of cheese and 23 thousand tons of butter were sold in retail on the domestic market. If the average annual increase in cheese sales has been 5% over the past 5 years, then butter sales are declining by about 3% annually, analysts say. The decrease in butter consumption is associated with healthy lifestyle trends and a reduction in the consumption of fatty products.
