“Depending on the differentiation of somatic cells in  the MILK , we can detect mastitis or an inflammatory process in the udder in the cow. it all goes away when it's recycled. It is rather important for the HEALTH of cows, since in most cases the inflammatory processes in the mammary gland are hidden. And then we pay the attention of farms,” said Larisa Ignatieva.

Determine the composition of milk in VIZH named after Ernst using a unique device MilkoScan/Fossomatic. Two pipettes automatically select the product for research in two directions. Somatic cells are detected by flow cytometry, among them lymphocytes, monocytes and others are determined. The method of infrared spectrometry - with the help of a laser - determines the composition of milk and fatty acids.

“In accordance with a certain wavelength, the component composition of milk is determined. For example, for fat - this is one spectrum, for protein - another, for lactose - the third. Each indicator has its own spectrum. Within a minute, the result of the study is displayed on a computer. We can see all the indicators online,” the scientist explained.

In the future, VIZH scientists plan to formalize the research into recommendations for breeding farms.
