A high pig slaughter rate in early 2022 bodes well for a new record pork production this year.

Between January and April, 2.37 million heads were slaughtered in Argentina, and record pork production is forecast for this year. The Rosario Stock Exchange estimates that slaughter will reach 5.17 million heads from May to December 2022, with a total slaughter for 2022 of 7.53 million heads.

The annual increase in pork consumption maintains and stimulates the slaughter rate. The province of Buenos Aires is home to half of the national pig slaughter, accounting for about 51% of production. it is followed by Santa Fe and Cordova with 19% and 16% respectively. The remaining 14% is shared among the country's other provinces, led by Entre Rios, which historically accounts for 4% of the national pig slaughter.
