Belarus and the Nizhny Novgorod region are ready to develop joint projects in agriculture

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation Vasily Dolgolev visited the Nizhny Novgorod region. Belarusian enterprises are ready to share MILK production technology with Nizhny Novgorod enterprises. This was announced by V. Dolgolev after the meeting with the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Valery Shantsev. According to him, the Nizhny Novgorod region is of interest to Belarus primarily as an industrially developed partner: close ties have long been established with the region in the field of agriculture, biotechnology, and auto components.

According to Viktor Brich, HEAD of the branch of the Belarusian Embassy in Nizhny Novgorod, a number of Nizhny Novgorod producers have already expressed their interest in attracting Belarusian technologies, experience and raw materials in the dairy industry. Among them are enterprises in the Vorotynsky and Sokolsky districts.

Strengthening economic ties, including in the dairy industry, should contribute to the growth of trade between partners. "The main task set by the President of the Republic of Belarus ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO and Valery Shantsev is to bring the trade turnover between the regions up to 1 billion US dollars," Vasily Dolgolev stressed.

So far, the growth rates of economic cooperation leave much to be desired. The number of participants in foreign economic activity and the number of joint projects increased, while trade decreased. The main reasons are the crisis, as well as fluctuations in exchange rates in both states. As of the beginning of June this year, the trade turnover of the Nizhny Novgorod region with the Republic of Belarus amounted to 117.2 million dollars, a decrease compared to the same period last year - almost half.

Among the trading partners of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Belarus is in fifth place after Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Finland and Germany (according to the results of the past year - third place). According to the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, exports to the Republic of Belarus amounted to 58.8 million US dollars , and imports - 58.4 million.

- The goal of reaching a trade turnover between us of 1 billion dollars is quite feasible if we start working more concretely, - Governor V. Shantsev is sure.

By the way, in Nizhny Novgorod on October 29, within the framework of the United RUSSIA forum, a meeting of the Council of Business Cooperation between the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Belarus is to be held, where, as a rule, concrete steps are discussed to strengthen economic cooperation, problems are eliminated and significant agreements are signed.

The Business Cooperation Council of the Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Republic of Belarus, created on the initiative of Governor Valery Shantsev, has been actively working since February 2006. Joint meetings of the Council are held twice a year in the Nizhny Novgorod region and in the Republic of Belarus alternately.
