Agro-industrial complex of the Ulyanovsk region: general dynamics of agriculture

Based on the results of the first quarter of 2024 , the Ulyanovsk region faced serious problems in the agricultural sector, especially in the production of poultry MEAT. The agricultural production index in the region was 90.8%, which is significantly lower than the average for RUSSIA (101.2%) and the Volga Federal District (100.6%). This put the Ulyanovsk region in 14th place among the regions of the Volga Federal District, which causes concern among both local authorities and manufacturers.

Decrease in the number of poultry

One of the main reasons for the decline in poultry meat production was the sharp reduction in the number of poultry. According to relevant departments, the number of poultry in organizations in the region decreased by 33%, amounting to only 690 thousand heads. This led to a 65.6% drop in poultry production compared to the previous year. Such figures threaten not only the food security of the region, but also the economic stability of local producers.

Overall agricultural dynamics

Despite the decline in poultry production, the region is experiencing growth in other agricultural sectors. Thus, MILK production increased by 4.8%, and eggs - by 8.1%, amounting to 52.1 million pieces. There is also an increase in the production of cattle meat (mainly beef) by 14.4%. However, overall, meat production in the region remains below 2023 levels by 11.7%, highlighting the need for an integrated approach to solving problems in livestock production.
