The prosecutor of the Polotsk district, after studying the materials of the pre-investigation check, opened a criminal case on torture under Part 1 of Article 154 of the Criminal Code. First of all, the prosecutor's office took care of protecting the woman from domestic violence, and the failure to initiate a criminal case could cause a resident of the Polotsk region to feel impunity and lead to grave consequences, so even despite the absence of a statement from the victim, the man was held accountable. Guided by Part 5 of Article 26 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the prosecutor opened a criminal case of private-public prosecution.

To organize a preliminary investigation, the prosecutor's office transferred the criminal case to the Polotsk Interdistrict Department of the Investigative Committee.
