Pedestrian safety control to be strengthened in Minsk

March 15, MINSK. From March 16 to March 18, Minsk police officers will be on duty at pedestrian crossings. During this period, preventive measures will be taken in the capital to prevent accidents involving pedestrians. BelTA was informed about this by the UGAI GUVD of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

"For three days, the entire personnel of the capital's State traffic inspectorate will patrol emergency sections of roads that are most at risk of hitting pedestrians. Together with the inspectors, other public security police services, as well as military personnel of the internal troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will also monitor compliance with traffic rules. by all road users. The road guards will pay special attention to the facts of drunk pedestrians on the carriageway and near it," the traffic police said.

In addition, police officers will carry out information work among the population: they will remind citizens about the rules for passing pedestrian crossings, draw attention to the need for safe behavior on the road, and also talk about responsibility for traffic violations.

“We remind you that for violation of traffic rules by pedestrians, Article 18.20 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Belarus provides for administrative liability in the form of a fine in the amount of one to three basic units  . psychotropic, toxic or other intoxicating substances, the fine increases to five basic units," the traffic police said.

Drivers should be aware that failure to give preference to pedestrians can result in a fine of one to five basic units.

For two months of this year, 42 accidents involving pedestrians (55% of the total number of accidents) were registered in Minsk, in which three people died and 39 were injured. 88% of city dwellers were run over by the fault of vehicle drivers.
