How not to end the holidays with a gastroenterologist? Doctor's advice

Holidays are quite capable of causing trouble for the body if its owner indulges himself non-stop at feasts and then continues to empty the refrigerator to save food. Chief nutritionist , gastroenterologist of the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Specialized Center Alexandrina Sharapaeva told a BELTA correspondent how gluttony can turn into, why the color and size of the dishes matter and what organs will have to pay for the banquet.
- Often people want to at least try almost all the dishes on the festive table. How not to overdo it with volumes?

- People cook and starve all day, and late in the evening they sit down at the table and eat in large quantities in the evening. But it is more correct to eat as usual during the day: breakfast and lunch. Then there will be no strong desire to pounce on snacks and meals in the evening. A long break between meals is bad, because on an empty stomach satiety comes later than it is full. When people realize that they have eaten too much, it is already too late.
The gall, pancreas and liver are under attack
- And what does overeating mean for the body?

- For every meal, pancreatic enzymes and bile are produced, which are used for digestion. When a person rarely eats, it accumulates in such large quantities that it is difficult for it to come out at once. This prolonged stagnation of bile is a bad thing and promotes the formation of gallstones. It is optimal to eat two to three times a day, and if a person has digestive problems, then five to six times. Often, fractionally, in small portions. On the other hand, if a person overeats, it is difficult for the body to digest everything at once. This is a big blow for the pancreas, because it must produce the required amount of secretion to digest food, and stress is ensured for the organ, and therefore the whole organism.
- What dishes on the table should you be careful with?

- With those that whet the appetite even more: all kinds of spices, seasonings, mayonnaise , ketchup, sauces. This company also hasALCOHOL - it increases blood glucose and removes fluid from tissues. There are a lot of different diseases that can develop after taking it. The same acute pancreatitis, which in severe forms has a fairly high mortality rate. It occurs even against the background of simultaneous consumption of alcohol in large quantities. As for the liver, it is enough to take alcohol once and hello, acute alcoholic hepatitis, which can also end in failure.

For the holiday table, you should try to prepare food with less fat and monitor the compatibility of dishes. When choosing new recipes from the Internet, it is better to remember that not every one of them may be successful. It's better to test it at least a week before the holiday to avoid disappointment. Other factors, such as serving, also affect appetite.
Make a smaller plate, drink in small sips
- What tricks can housewives use?

- Take a smaller plate. The larger it is, the more it seems to a person that there is not much food on it. The color of the dishes matters: bright, sunny (orange, red) helps whet the appetite. It is better to choose blue and green - these are neutral and soothing colors, they will help you eat less.
- The statement that water during meals is harmful - a myth or reality?

- It is better to drink water half an hour before the feast: it creates volume in the stomach - less is eaten. When alcohol is diluted with it, absorption improves, and accordingly, intoxication comes faster. When washed down with water, enzymes that participate in the breakdown of food are diluted.

But if you still want to drink while eating, then it’s better to do it in small sips. To quench your thirst, water is more suitable than juices. It is advisable to leave them until the morning. An alternative to water can be homemade fruit drinks and compotes (not to be confused with store-bought ones in tetra packs), which should be made in such a concentration that the drink is more watery. Again, drink in small sips.
Step-by-step instructions
- We will compose step-by-step instructions from a gastroenterologist or nutritionist. What points are in it?

- Preparation: we eat according to the usual schedule, do not starve ourselves before the feast. We approach dishes wisely, their compatibility at the table and limit the quantity. Let's try it in portions. The desire to absorb everything can result in intestinal infections and food poisoning.

We remember to limit alcohol consumption and combine it with snacks. You need to snack on something more dietary: boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes will help reduce the traumatic effect on the pancreas. An important point - you don’t need to sit at the table, try to move: take a walk, walk around the house, dance, play games - this way food is easier to digest. Make a holidayA rational approach to everything will help make it as comfortable as possible for the body.
