Spelled production is being revived in the Gumbetovsky district of Dagestan

As the HEAD of the municipality’s agriculture department, Magomed Abdulkhalimov, said, in total, about 80 hectares have already been occupied in the spelled area, and interest in this crop is only growing.
“Every year we increase the area under spelt. People even come from the cities to sow and then return for the harvest,” he noted.
According to the head of the district department of agro-industrial complex management, livestock farming and horticulture are also developed in the municipality, and potato plantings are growing.
“We have 530 hectares of apricots alone, and the area of ​​other orchards over the past two years has increased from 1.5 hectares to 5 hectares; in 2024 we plan to increase it to 20 hectares. In addition, this year we built two fattening farms for 2 thousand heads of sheep,” said Magomed Abdulkhalimov, thanking the leadership of Dagestan and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the republic for their assistance in the development of agriculture in the region.
Tsilitl resident Sulaiman Magomednurov recalled that at one time spelt was grown in the area on hundreds of hectares. He noted that local farmers seriously intend to revive the production of this crop.
“I have a supply of spelled seeds to sow 30-40 hectares. I hope that within five years I will increase the area to 100 hectares,” said Magomednurov.
