Budapest will not interfere with the adoption of the 13th package of European sanctions against RUSSIA, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said following a meeting with colleagues from EU countries in Brussels.

“At the stage of preparation of the 13th package of sanctions, it was possible to exclude from it all elements that would be contrary to the economic interests of Hungary. Therefore, we believe that from this point of view, using a veto would not make sense. At the same time, I think that the European Union is making the wrong decision,” he said ( quoted by TASS ).

He also said that Hungary will not sponsor arms supplies to Ukraine and, subject to this condition, will not block the allocation of €5 billion for the European Peace Fund, funds from which go to support Kyiv. Budapest insists its contribution will not be intended to “cause loss of life or injury.”

The EU plans to agree on new sanctions against Russia by February 24. As BLOOMBERG reported , they intended to add restrictions against companies from CHINA , Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Serbia, etc., that were involved in the sale of sanctioned goods to Russia. The Financial Times wrote that Budapest opposed restrictions on firms from China.

Bloomberg also reported that in the new package the EU will focus on expanding sanctions lists, additional trade restrictions, and combating circumvention of restrictive measures through third countries. According to the agency, sanctions could be imposed against 55 companies and 60 people that are associated with the production of weapons or supplies of key technologies and electronic components to Russian defense industry enterprises, a number of Russian officials and companies that provided supplies from North Korea to Russia.

Moscow considers the restrictions illegal. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted after the introduction of the previous EU sanctions package that the association “is probably already exhausting the resource of those areas where sanctions can be imposed.”
